Import Docx 2 InD strips formatting, import RTF 2 InD crashes

InD CS6 (8.0.2), OS 10.9.3, Word 2011 (14.4.3)

I have an RTF file that shows up fine in MS Word, including footnotes, unicode (polytonic Greek), diacritics, and formatting styles. But it consistently crashes InD when placed in a document.

If I save as .docx, it imports into InD without crashing, and even preserves the footnotes, the unicode (polytonic Greek), and the diacritics. But it strips out the formatting styles like italics. (The italics are there when the .docx file is opened in Word.)

Any thoughts?
