- Open picture file
- Open a hue/saturation adjustment layer above the background layer. Check the colorize box in the dialog, then work the hue/saturation/ lightness sliders to suit
- Open a blank layer above the adjustment layer, and press CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+E to create a stamp visible layer
- Shut off the visibility of all the layers, except the stamp visible layer
- Get the magic wand tool out of the toolbox, then click on the black areas. Hit delete on the keyboard to delete these areas. You may have to adjust the tolerance setting on the tool's option bar. I used 32.
- Tidy up with the eraser tool.
- Save in a format which supports transparency for subsequent use.
