I'm a beginner in LR but do know something about photography. If you "know nothing about photo editing" I suggest you get a book on the basics, giving things like the importance of megapixels, highlight, shadows, sharpening, perspective rectification etc. have in the context of photo editing. Then, with practice, you should find Lightroom suitable despite its sophistication. There are many tutorials on YouTube, 30 GB at least. Adobe's tutorials are good. Search on YouTube for "Adobe tutorials", then "Lightroom". Try this one:

But perhaps the best programme to start with is Adobe Photoshop Elements. It is inexpensive. That is a simpler programme but can tackle many of the basics of editing and will continue to be useful to you after you learn Lightroom.
