I think I may have found a solution (or at least an improvement).  If I uncheck ICC Profile: Adobe RGB 1998 in the saving as jpeg process, they seem to be saving normally.  I'll have to do a side by side comparison with some pre-CS6 images to see if I'm getting the exact same results that I used to get with CS3 or if it's just an improvement.  I've stared at these images for so long, I don't really even trust my eyes anymore.  I'm not sure if this is a permanent solution or if I need to add a different ICC Profile and then check that one or just leave it unchecked but I'm relieved that it's at least a step in the right direction.  Then I'll definitely tackle the calibration.

 

twenty_one, as I mentioned before, my option to add under devices is greyed out.  It looks like this:
