While scripting knows only events, the SDK has many more notification mechanisms, events being one of them. Here an event refers to input from the OS, e.g. by mouse or keyboard. The most common notifications are illustrated by example code in the SDK, just take the time to read thru some of them and the programming guide, then use your favorite text search. Regarding your question, Adobe left the big "catch them all" plugin to us as an exercise. The debug build has plenty trace options - no source code provided, but getting hold of that is another challenge.
