Re: Bridge CS4 will not update to Camera Raw 5.7 on one of my computers.

Hi again Station_2,

I am just about to call it a night and have some dinner (it is almost 1am here in San Diego), so i will not be able to try what you've told me until I get some sleep. However, I did want to answer your question to me about why I keep talking about Bridge.

After years of suffering with my browser's clunky way of looking at my thousands of photos, after I take them, I finally learned enough about CS4 to realize that by using its included Bridge program, it was much, much easier to review my photos and even give them star ratings, so that I could quickly go through them all and then return to edit only the better ones.

With my Mac Pro (Lion) and Bridge, I was able to see thumbnails of photos shot in RAW with my D3 and D3S. However, late last year I finally splurged and bought a new MacBook Pro Retina. It is lightning fast compared to my 2009 MacPro, but when I installed the same version of Bridge CS4 on it, I was only able to view thumbnails shot with my D3 -- not my D3S. Everything shot with my D3S appears as a generic icon. This is frustrating because every other program that I use on the new computer displays the D3S's Nikon NEF RAW images and thumbnails just fine.

Anyway, that is whey I am trying to fix my installation of Bridge CS4. I bought Lightroom a few months ago but I have not had time to learn how to use it. I keep extremely busy every week writing and doing the photography for my AutoMatters column. It is archived here, at the Del Mar Times website, if you are interested in seeing it:

Click "Next Page" at the bottom of each column introduction page to see more column introductions.

As for why I copied a folder from my Mac Pro (Lion) to the MacBook Pro Retina, I did not realize that the contents of what I thought was the same folder in both programs would actually be different. I should have, since I know that just because a program will work on one computer does not mean that the exact same program will work on a computer with a newer operating system. I have just enough knowledge about computers to be dangerous.
